Dumbleyung Lawn Classic this weekend

08 Feb, 2012 11:33 AM
THIS weekend the Dumbleyung Tennis Club will holds its major event for the season – the Lawn Classic.

The courts look in ship shape condition and there are fantastic sponsors and prizes organised in preparation for a great weekend of tennis.

The club thanked its sponsors Wishbone Transport, Dumbleyung Ag Supplies, Dumbleyung Roadhouse, Flexitrans, Saltland Trout and Churchland Wine, who enable the club to stage this event and provide fantastic prizes.

This Saturday will be the open men's and ladies’ doubles and Sunday is the very popular mixed doubles.

Both days are scheduled for 9am registration for a 9.30am start.

People need to get their nominations in as soon as possible to Drew Roberts on 0427 084 500 or Jamie Dare on 9822 7023.

Those who would like to play but haven't got a partner are encouraged to submit their nomination anyway and they may be able to be matched up.

Club members are asked to help out if they can on the day with help in the kitchen and bar and on Friday to set up and prepare for the weekend.

Anyone who can help with meal preparation is welcome to come to Stubbs Park from 10am on Friday, with further help required from 2pm to set up the courts, shade and pavilion and do the draw.

All club members are also asked to provide a large plate of afternoon tea each day.

For more information or nominations contact Drew or Jamie.

Last Sunday the second half of the season got under way with Dumbleyung hosting Kukerin in pennants with great weather and enjoyable tennis.

The final result was Dumbleyung 22 sets, 168 games defeated Kukerin 12 sets, 112 games.

Congratulations to Dumbleyung's five set winners, Michelle Carew-Reid, Jane Smith and Julie Ramm.

Looking ahead on the tennis calendar there is social tennis on Friday, February 17, from 4pm and pennants against Dudinin in Dudinin on Sunday, February 19.

Then there is social tennis again on Friday, February 24 and pennants against Tarin Rock at Tarin Rock on Sunday, February 26.
