PLAYING away against Wagin, the Dumbleyung men’s bowls team performed quite well to go down 1-5 points in its last pennant game before the big break.
After a shaky start with his Dad’s Army team composed of George Bartram, Terry Ward and Owen Dare, skipper Clem Henry then proceeded to prod his players into action and unleash his best bowls throughout the rest of the game to make them the sole point collectors for the day.
The ladies had to be content with sharing the point with Moodiarrup after their most recent pennant game was abandoned due to some unseasonal weather.
As the headers had come to a standstill it may have been a good opportunity to stay at home for a change and do some bonding with their partners.
The ladies’ fours event played during the holidays was won by Jeanne Hudson’s team of Karen Ward, Jean Lee and Elizabeth Dare.
There was also a Bob and Lola Hannah sponsored mixed triples event during the break with Owen Dare, Helen Gooding and Stephan Hughes being victorious while Terry Ward, Bob Hannah and Dani Ward scooped up the second prize.
The men next rattle their bowls at Moodiarrup on Saturday, February 4, while the ladies jump the gun with an appearance at Katanning on Tuesday, January 31.
It was great to see club motivator June Mott back on deck after a horrific injury hoisting the sails and keeping the crew behind the rails.
