AS THE Christmas break approaches, things at the Wagin Bowling Club will slow down a little bit.
Women's pennants games have been washed out, as well as a couple of club days.
The introduction of triples for pennants this season has seen all teams adjusting well, even though fours are the normal format for this competition.
Wagin is doing well and, at the time of print, is on top of the competition ladder.
However there are still three games to go after the Christmas break.
The mixed pairs, which were finished in the dark, saw Fe Thompson and Warren Holt rising to the challenge and winning the event.
The hospital day was a successful fund-raiser, as was the daffodil-themed Cancer Appeal Day, which was well attended.
Captain Gwen Lathwell did a grand job.
The club held its jackpot fours, which is always a winner, and hosted the inter-league round robin.
Some girls have travelled to Albany for a pairs competition, as well as to Middleton Beach, Nyabing, Darkan and Mandurah.
The championship fours were played on Wednesday, but only after an early morning greens inspection due to the downpour of rain the previous two days.
The day was a great success and heaps of fun, with the winners being Leanne Cook, Diane Stephens, Fe Thompson and Lisa Deworboies.
Sunday, December 18, was the Christmas get together, with 18 players taking part.
Play started in the morning with a game of triples, followed by a sumptuous lunch prepared by Gwen.
The bowlers then played pairs and fours.
This day, which is always an enjoyable event, was sponsored by Bernie Welland, who has been putting on this day for a number of years now.
The winners were Ross Hunt, Murray Lathwell, Diane Stephens and Cedric Cole.
The club wished all its members and their families a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
