MEMBERS of the Dumbleyung men’s bowls pennant team travelled to Moodiarrup last Saturday for their first workout on the club’s new green, only to go down by 13 shots overall with a 1-5 points result.
Clem Henry’s side consisting of Dani Ward, Kieran Stephens and Fred from Moodiarrup led their opposition on a merry dance all day and were the most productive for Dumbleyung, while Gary Bateup and his band of warriors, namely Lola and Bob Hannah and Jack Morris, came from the clouds to fall short by only three shots.
The ladies in their most recent pennant hit-out succumbed to the Katanning team away 1 -5 points, with Jeanne Hudson coaxing her girls Jean Lee and Elizabeth Dare to victory on their rink.
Last Sunday the men played their singles championship and the ladies staged the final of their singles.
For the men it was a battle of the King Browns with Bob Hannah running out a comfortable winner and for the ladies June Mott finally got her name up in lights to defeat Audrey Bateup by a significant margin.
In the men’s plate Terry Ward defeated Jack Morris in a family feud game and Karen Ward manufactured the same result for the ladies plate final.
Millie Bray showed Bob Bray the way to capture the Sunday morning scrounger final.
The next pennant appearance for the men is over at Katanning this Saturday and the ladies front up to Kojonup Gold the following Tuesday at that club’s venue.
Well done to Karen Ward and June Mott who competed in the three-day inter-league round robin fours held last week.
