Matters wins scroungers in wet and windy conditions

04 Aug, 2010 02:31 PM
WET and windy conditions saw only eight players turn up for scroungers on Thursday, July 29 where Halina Wienert, Phil Harris, Jim Adams and Ron Matters faced off on rink two. Harris jumped out well in the first half to hold a handy lead with 20 shots on the board then he was over run in the last half with Matters coming home well to go into the final on 32, with Harris next on 30 followed by Wienert with 25 and Adams on 21.

Rink four saw Bernie Welland, Mary Riseborough, Chris Lowrie and Ben Perce have a great game where Lowrie was in good touch and held a nine-shot advantage over Pearce, his nearest rival in the first half. Lowrie added a further 18 shots in the second half to progress into the final with a total of 41 followed by a fast finishing Riseborough on 26, Welland on 21 and Pearce after having a slow last half to only add six, for a total of 20.

The final was a game of two ends on ‘A’ green between Ron Matters and Chris Lowrie where the first end was shared three each, then Matters got four in last one to be the winner on seven and Lowrie was runner-up on five.
