LAST Saturday the Great Southern Kart Club kicked off its 2012 season with its first club run of the year, which was well attended with 50 nominations.
The club welcomed new members this year from the Wheatbelt Association and hoped they enjoyed coming to Wagin to race.
The KT medium class was first out on the track and, with 11 drivers, it proved to be one of the most competitive classes on the day.
Jared Bevan from Busselton won the day from local Neil Morrell and new member Brett Westphal.
The juniors were up next and, with seven drivers competing, the young guns did not disappoint with their competitive spirit.
In the end it was Nathan Chalmers who came out on top from Jye Chapman and Lachie Horton.
With a total of 18 competitors, those in the KT lights class were in for some hard and fast racing with plenty of spins along the way.
Joe Chalmers won the meeting from local driver Luke Nardini and Jared Bevan.
The high-powered A-grade class did not have many numbers but the three drivers that did attend still enjoyed a few races.
Steve Tull took the top points from Bryden Chalmers and Robb McDougall.
Three rookies took to the track as well, in order to improve their driving skills before taking the next step to the junior class.
Blake Iwanow took out top points from Cody Horton and Chanelle Iwanow.
In the 125 class there were nine drivers, which made for some great displays of racing.
Rick Iwanow won the day from John O’Malley and Shane Richards.
This will be a big year for the Great Southern Kart Club as on the weekend of September 29 and 30 the club will host the 2012 WA Dirt Kart Titles.
The next meeting for the Great Southern Kart Club is on Saturday, March 31, with racing starting at 4pm.
