Where have all our players gone? With the bare eleven, including the coach and two injured players Dumbleyung lined up against Mighty Ducks on the turf.
Meryn Clune filled in as goalie and played an outstanding game. The coach filled in the full back position, a big thank you to Stevie Sutherland who had the job to maintain some sort of control in the back. All the coach had to do was mark up a player but was found wandering over the field, however between Meryn and Stevie our coach was put on a leash and the defence held.
Then adding to othe injury list coach was sidelined for five and came back on to wander around the forward line.
Half time score nil all.
The girls played the most awesome game, Katrina Komone running hard all game covering the inner position, Davina Gossage being asked to fall back in as half-back, Hayley Willmott and Lisa Fiorentino had some hard running on the wings and Letisha Smith had a very solid game in centre-half. Congratulations girls.
A big thank you to Jane Smith who was in Narrogin at 9am for minky, played an inspirational hard running game in A-grade, then umpired on the turf - all with five kids in tow!
Full time score 1-all, once again Dumbleyung converted the single short corner and defended numerous short corners time and time again.
Players player: Meryn Clune and Katrina Komone Best Players: Letisha Smith, Fiona Hall, Jane Smith.
Dumbleyung has yet another bye on Saturday, however to make up for it there is footy catering on Sunday. Everyone is expected to help out - these are the main fundraising events for the year. And members can back off the chocolate on the slices and cakes this week.
Junior hockey
The juniors had a great game against Saints on the weekend, culminating in a 1-1 draw. With a few changes on field, everyone adjusted well and exhibited some solid defence work and great manning-up, well done.
Special mention to Samantha Sweeting who has been playing consistent strong games, great to see. Best players Christopher Armstrong, Samantha Sweeting, Ben Pearce.
A big thank you to Christopher who has been travelling across from Collie to play, it is much appreciated. Christopher played three games plus one training last week - glad to see you are enjoying it so much. Collie is very fortunate to have you. Rumour has it that Trevor 'Armi' Armstrong is soon to hit the turf too. Good luck to all involved!
This weekend is 11am on the Turf, against Williams. Captain and oranges Casey Angwin. This is the last game for the round we then go into Crossovers.
Thank you to Jane Smith for co-ordinating the children at the Minkey Carnival. They had a great time playing many games, all on the artificial turf. Great to see so many keen and talented up and coming juniors.
The last football catering for the year is this Sunday, August 11. If you haven't been available for the other days but are able to do a couple more hours this time please let Sarah-Jane Robertson-Hall know.
