THE Wagin Amateur Swimming Club attended the Country Championships recently, with a good result.
The annual two-day event hosted by Swimming WA for all affiliated country clubs was a great occasion for Western Australia’s widespread country swimming community to come together and celebrate their achievements at Challenge Stadium in Perth.
Thirty country clubs took part from as far as Broome, Tom Price, Kalgoorlie and Albany, with 349 swimmers competing.
Wagin had 13 swimmers qualify for this event and they competed in 43 events – the most ever by the club.
The swimmers all did well, with 24 personal best times being recorded for Wagin.
Casey Doak did particularly well, winning four gold and one silver medal from the five events she competed
in. The swimmers who competed over the weekend representing Wagin were Owen Wigg (10), Saige Edwards (10), Jackson Davidson (11), Zane Watt (12), Jainna Buck (12), Jessica Wigg (12), Yvonne Pangler (13), Thalia Davidson (13), Brooke Pugh (14), Brendan Adams (14), Reino Cutforth (15), Mitchell Adams (16) and Casey Doak (17).
Swimmers and parents thanked Stuart Johansson for all the time and effort he puts into training and preparing his team.
His dedication to this role is to be commended.
There are a number of swim meets coming up that the club will be continue to train for, particularly focusing on the country pennants challenge in Northam on February 27 and 28.
Wagin will also be hosting a Twilight Meet on Saturday, February 20 and will be encouraging surrounding swimming clubs to join them for this meet – information about this event will be sent out to clubs soon.
The club is always seeking new members.
