THE Wagin Bowling Club's singles championship was finalised on Sunday, February 14.
The semi-final for the members was played between Johnathon Davidson and Ken Preston.
After a closely contested game it resulted in a win for Davidson.
The second semi-final was won by Warren Holt on a forfeit as the result of an accident, from Ken Meers.
The finals between Davidson and Holt was a display of superb draw bowling from both players, with Davidson having the upper hand for three quarters of the game.
Holt slowly drew away with his consistent draw bowling, scoring three shots on the crucial end, giving him 25 up, which gave him the 2009-2010 championship.
The championship plate was won by the ever cool, calm and collected Bob Stephens after defeating Keith Hutchens, who also bowled superbly in another close game of draw bowls and a pleasure to watch.
In the quarter- and semi-finals of the ladies’ event, Leanne Cook defeated Cathryn Marshall and then defeated Neridah Monck.
Coral Davies defeated Mary Riseborough, then played on to defeat Halena Weinert, leaving the two senior ladies to compete in the plate, which was won by Cathryn Marshall.
The ladies’ championship was then played by the two younger women and was won by Leanne Cook for the first time from Coral Davies.
This was an exciting game to watch with Cook fighting back after being down in the early part of the game.
The scores levelled at 21-all, but Cook retained the slender lead to win the championship by a small margin and congratulations go to her.
It was a wonderful experience for these two younger bowlers to win the singles championships.
