Travelling team slips up on Kojonup’s slick surfaces

19 Nov, 2009 03:42 PM
ALL the members of the local men’s pennant team who travelled to Kojonup last Saturday for a showdown on their new carpet rinks failed to flatter with their performances when their strong arm tactics came unstuck on the super slick surface.

The final result was Dumbleyung nil points to Kojonup six points, with the shot margin being even more onesided.

The men are now waiting with baited breath whether the women can handle the conditions any better to come up trumps when they play there for their next pennant game.

The club mixed pairs final held the following day saw the much awaited clash between Murray and Gwen Lathwell and Owen Dare and June Mott unfold with the pair of Mott and Dare skipping off the mark quickly to lead from start to finish.

Mott and Dare now seem to have a mortgage on the event as they have collected the title three times in the past four years and were runner up on the other occasion.

New resident and bowler Jeff Alderton set the pattern to win Sunday morning scroungers with a giant killing victory over multiple singles champion Karen Ward and scroungers king pin Irvine McArthur.

Congratulations to Karen Ward and June Mott who polished off the trophy for the recent league pairs held in Katanning.

This was the first time in 17 years of competing in that event a Dumbleyung team has been victorious.

Next Friday the ladies hold their pairs championship and Murray Shaylor, Graeme Jose, Owen Dare and Bob Hannah head off to Wagin on Saturday to put the ground work in for an attack on the league fours event.

There will be a club competition this coming Sunday with names in by 12.30pm for a 1pm start.
