Hunt triumphs in midweek bowls

EIGHTEEN keen bowlers turned out on Thursday January 18 to play hotly contested bowls.

Rink one saw Gwen Lathwell, Annette Hefford and Ron Matters fight out the twenty two ends.

When G Lathwell and Hefford scored a six in the space of the first seven ends Matters was left stranded and did not get back into the game.

G Lathwell went into the final with a total of fifty four followed by Hefford on forty seven and Matters with thirty one.

Rink tow with Ian Young, Norm Broom and Bob Stephens found Broom in good touch.

Young was in fair form and Stephens appeared to still be in holiday mode.

Broom went into the finals with fufty six shots, followed by B Stephens on thirty nine and Young on thirty seven.

Rink three with Bernie Welland, Ross Hunt and Murray Lathwell saw Hunt under no pressure and scoring every end go into the finals with sixty eight shots followed by Welland on thirty six and M Lathwell on twenty eight.

Rink four with Phil Harris, Ben Pearce and Keith Hutchins saw Harris in good touch to go into the semi's with fifty three followed by Hutchins on forty one and Ben on thirty eight.

Rink five found Davida Mitchell, Lisa Deworboies and Les Farmer fight out the twenty two ends and with Deworboies and Farmer going neck and neck Mitchell found it hard to keep in touch . When Deworboies scored fifteen in four ends midway through the last half it blew the game open and she held on to go into the semi final with fifty one, Farmer next on forty seven and Mitchell finished on thirty four.

Rink six with Mary Riseborough, Di Stephens and Mark Oakley found the women hungry for a win.

It was always going to be difficult for Oakley so at the halfway mark Riseborough held a four shot lead over D Stephens when Stephens scored ten shots in the last to ends to go into the semi final with a total of fifty three, with Riseborough close up on fifty Oakley tried hard for his finishing score of twenty nine.

The first semi final with G Lathwell, D Stephens and P Harris saw D Stephens progress into the final with ten shots over Harris and Lathwell on seven each.

In the second semi between R Hunt, L Deworboies and N Broom the boys locked Deworboies out and Hunt went into the final on fourteen with Broom finishing on ten and nothing left for Deworboies.

Hunt won the final with a total of seven with D Stephens runner up on five.

Scoungers will be on this Thursday names in by 1.30 for a 2.00pm start.
