MORE than 1000 of the best bowlers were sent from 119 country bowling clubs to participate in this year's Country Week championships.
All the clubs were playing for the prestigious PS Bignell perpetual memorial shield.
The Wagin men had their best year since the inception of the Bignell Shield in 1958 and Wagin finished overall second.
Cunderdin won the shield for the third year in a row.
In the singles competition Wagin had some huge efforts with Ross Dempsey playing in the finals and narrowly losing to John Robertson from Middleton Beach.
Wagin men’s captain Steve Trowl took out equal fourth place and both men should be congratulated with 582 men playing in the event.
In the pairs competition 544 teams took to the greens.
Wagin's Ken Preston and Ian Young took out equal third place, losing their only game to the eventual winner of the event from Wonthella, Eddy Dodd and Henry Slawinski (formerly of Wagin).
Also placed equal fourth from Wagin was the team of Ross Dempsey and Jonathon Davidson.
In the men’s fours event Wagin also had one team win their section, Ross Dempsey, Jonathon Davidson, Warren Holt and Steve Trowl.
Wagin had four players that won the bowls trifecta – making it through their sections in the singles, pairs and fours.
Congratulations to Jonathon Davidson, Ross Dempsey, Steve Trowl and Warren Holt.
Congratulations to all the Wagin men playing in Country Week this year, it was a record setting effort by all.
Please remember the Wagin's men's championship pairs will be held this Sunday, March 14.
