Bright future for junior cricketers

11 Mar, 2010 02:49 PM
TWO junior Wagin cricketers played at the recent Peel Cricket Carnival as part of the Central Districts Cricket under 12 side.

Kayla Vanspall and Conan Holder said they had fun and played lots of cricket at the carnival, which is held every year over the long weekend in February.

As a girl, 14-year-old Kayla is permitted to play with a team up to two years her junior, which was why she could play in the under 12 side in this competition.

Conan said they played one game per day starting on Saturday and concluding on Monday.

“There were 40 overs played split into two innings,” he said.

“We won all three games and stayed in the Serpentine Camping Centre.

“There were seven overs per bowler with four overs at the start.”

Kayla said they played cricket, won and went swimming.

Both Kayla and Conan would like more local children to nominate and play in this type of competition.

“We had lots of fun, made new friends and played lots of cricket,” Kayla said.

People who are interested in being a part of Wagin junior cricket are more than welcome.
