New cross-country course ready for one day event

01 Sep, 2010 02:08 PM
WEEKS of hard work by a dedicated team will pay off over the weekend of September 4 and 5 as the new equestrian cross-country course at Cuballing sees its first ever competition with the Go for 2 & 5 Dryandra Regional Inaugural One Day Event.

More than 240 entries have been received from all over southern WA for the big weekend which will see five dressage arenas, two showjumping venues and the new cross-country course in action.

The one day event features competition in three disciplines with 12 different classes from the senior pre-novice to D-grade pony club, offering an opportunity for horses and riders with a wide range of skills to take part.

The one day event is a major feature of the annual program for the Narrogin Equestrian Association (NEA) and the Narrogin Pony and Riding Club and spectators are welcome all weekend.

Construction of the new cross-country course has been a massive effort with South Australian designer Phil Bailey working with NEA president Kim McKenzie and a dedicated team over the past few weeks to ensure that the course is ready for competition this weekend.

In addition, the Cuballing Shire has been very much involved with the preparation and construction not only of the cross-country course but also other areas of the park in preparation for the one day event.

Since the opening of entries, there has been a flood of applications indicating the support of the WA equestrian community for the event.

Event secretary Jacquie Early said WA businesses had also been keen to come on board with sponsorship for the event which is part of the Healthway eventing series.

“We’re looking forward to a great weekend and we’re very appreciative of all the hard work and contributions not only from our sponsors but also from the many volunteers who have given their time and talents to make this all come together,” she said.

“We’d love as many people as possible to come along and see the new venue and enjoy the competition.”

The weekend starts on Saturday morning with the dressage sessions which will continue throughout the day with the first showjumping session on Saturday afternoon.

Sunday will see the major showjumping rounds and the great spectacle of the cross-country.
