WAGIN Junior Cricket Club has been given a welcome funding boost thanks to the McDonald’s GWN7 Junior Sports Trust (MGJST).
The club was among 11 recipients of funding grants in the second round of MGJST grants for 2011-12.
Club member Deanne Brennan applied for the grant in early January and news came in very quickly that the club had been awarded the funding.
The MGJST program, funded by McDonald’s WA, provides clubs and schools with the means to purchase sporting infrastructure and new equipment, or develop and promote their junior sporting events.
The Wagin Junior Cricket Club received $1000, which it has put towards new uniforms and cricket equipment.
Wagin District Cricket Club (WDCC) member Kim Davidson had personally funded the new uniforms that the players wore during junior Country Week and the grant has allowed the club to repay this generosity.
The remainder of the money will be put towards new equipment such as bats, gloves and pads, which is yet to be decided.
“Deanne had done a great job applying for the grant off her own back,” WDCC secretary Brenden Hall said.
“She is very involved in the club, especially with fundraising and her efforts are greatly appreciated.”
