Wickepin celebrations

25 Aug, 2010 02:33 PM
OCTOBER 8 and 9 in Wickepin will be a weekend of celebration.

The Wickepin Football Club is turning 100, the homestead of well known author Albert Facey is recognising 10 years of being in the Wickepin town site and the bi-annual Wickepin Art Competition is on again.

All this celebrating will mean it is a hullabaloo in Wickepin.

The weekend starts in style on Friday evening.

Trevelen wines and Over the Moon organic cheeses will be served at the opening of the art competition.

Judith Lambert will judge the art competition and the winner of each category will be announced.

The competition attracts entires from around the state as well as locally.

In the past the artwork has been inspirational and the same is expected again.

The 2009 Facemap project will be unveiled.

The aim of this project was to photograph all Wickepin shire residents and to have the final product displayed.

This has culminated in a 2m x 3m art installation.

All will be revealed during the night.

Saturday will be a true hullabaloo with food stalls, fresh produce, cake stalls, doughnuts, a coffee van, a book stall, a white elephant stall and activities for children of all ages – all in the hub of town.

The art competition will be open for viewing and sales.

The Albert Facey Homestead will be open and there will be an official opening and plaque unveiling to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of its relocation and restoration in Wickepin. This home is typical of life in the 1920s and has been lovingly restored and maintained by local volunteers.

Following a true country style afternoon tea at the town hall, the Wickepin Football Club will start its celebrations.

A football match between former club legends and the current league side kicks off in the afternoon.

The evening will wrap up with a gala dinner where photographs, memorabilia and memories will be shared.

A book recording the history of the Wickepin Football Club and its players will be launched.

The Shire of Wickepin and the Wickepin Telecentre websites will have more information,

art competition entry forms and ticket sales for the Friday evening opening of the art competition. Alternatively call Libby on 9888 6041, Lee on 9888 6013 or Felicity on 0403 184 379 for any queries about the football celebrations.
