White on white a winner

02 Jul, 2009 02:24 PM
THIS month’s Wagin Camera Club assignment was predominately white with the colour white to dominate the main subject.

Trena Dennis of Broomehill was the winner with her striking photograph of Venetian masks.

Judge Colin Feilen from the WA Photographic Judges Association said it was “a well observed photograph, a simple subject, a mask white in colour photographed in good light”.

“Exposure and focus are spot on, showing detail in the highlights and a true black in the shadow area under the chin of the mask. A top effort and a memorable image.”

A second Broomehill member was the winner in the Open Section.

Helen Bignell’s photograph of a beautiful rose drew these comments from the judge, “excellent low early morning light shows up the structure of the bloom and the covering of the dew helps reinforce the atmosphere.

“The tight square crop suits the subject well and the inclusion of the unopened buds in the middle distance tells the story to perfection.”

The subject for next month is something extraordinary out of something ordinary.

All members are welcome as well as anyone thinking about joining camera club or wanting to know more about photography.

Starting time is 7pm and the next meeting will be held Thursday, July 23 at the Telecentre in Wagin.

Call president Veana Scott for more details on 9862 2050.
