THE State Government has announced funding for community groups in the Wagin electorate to help them celebrate National Youth Week later this year.
Member for Wagin Terry Waldron MLA said seven organisations in the Wagin electorate would share in $6890 to run projects ranging from a street party to a skate competition.
“These grants will help organisations provide events that will have a positive impact on youth and encourage youth participation in the community,” Mr Waldron said.
“The activities provide an opportunity for young people to express their views, raise issues of concern, and act on issues that affect their lives.
“Many of the events will be coordinated by young people and will celebrate their achievements and acknowledge the positive impact young people have on their local community.”
The funded events are: $1000 to the Shire of Pingelly to conduct a street party for young people, $910 to the Wagin Youth Centre to conduct a disco for young people, $1000 to the Boddington Youth Centre to conduct an evening festival of celebrations, $980 to the Shire of Kondinin to conduct a fun day for the young people of Kondinin and Hyden, $1000 to the Shire of Kulin to host an aero bungy event, $1000 to the Shire of Katanning to conduct a range of workshops at a youth festival and $1000 to the Town of Narrogin for a youth festival, including a skate competition.
Youth Minister Donna Faragher said National Youth Week, which runs from April 10 - 18, was the biggest celebration of young people in Australia.
She said the grants of up to $1,000 were available for people to organise events that would bring young people together during the week.
Mrs Faragher said some grants had been awarded to organisations that could benefit youth from all over Western Australia.
These included $1000 to the Edmund Rice Camp for Kids to conduct a youth forum that focuses on youth involvement within the community, $1000 to the Australian Trust for Conservation Volunteers to conduct a statewide photography exhibition for secondary students and $1000 to the Western Australian Federation of Rural Youth to run a series of skills/confidence building sessions, followed by a dinner and awards night.
