WAGIN was the second-last stopover for participants in the Red Sky Ride, which took place last week.
About 20 riders and support crew left Perth on March 7 for the 1000km charity bicycle ride.
After earlier over-nighting at Harvey, Dunsborough and Augusta, day six was the second longest leg of the journey – 156km from Bridgetown to Wagin last Friday, March 12.
At about 2.15pm, a tired and relieved bunch of riders pulled into the Giant Ram Park for a well-earned break.
When asked about the day, one of the new riders came up with a number of H words – hard, hills, head wind, humidity and heat.
The riders said they were finally grateful to get to Wagin.
The group was welcomed by members of the Lions Club of Wagin with cold drinks, sandwiches, sausage rolls, cake, fruit, tea and coffee.
On behalf of the Lions Club, Don Davies presented the group with a donation and accepted a certificate of appreciation.
By the time the riders reached Wagin more than $228,000 of the target of $400,000 had been raised.
The aim of the ride is to raise the awareness of and raise funds for the SolarisCare Foundation Cancer Support Centres.
The cancer support drop-in centres are located at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and St John of God Hospital Subiaco and provide cancer patients and their carers, with complementary therapies and counselling, a library service and other support services to assist their mainstream treatments and aid their quality of life.

After staying in Wagin overnight the riders headed off to York on Saturday morning and then back to Perth on Sunday.
