Popular village visitor rescued

18 Jan, 2012 09:17 AM
WAGIN Historical Village’s most popular volunteer Jaasie, a Tenterfield terrier, visits the village at least twice a week with her volunteer owner Don Mercer.

A few weeks ago she rushed off to do her usual activity – chasing a rabbit which ran under the post office building.

She normally comes out after a while with much coaxing but this day she could not get out.

Village volunteers, preparing for a visiting for a bus of tourists, visitors and Mr Mercer were all trying to get her out by digging around the building and calling her name all to no avail.

She could be heard howling and whimpering but could not be seen.

A call for help from the ranger resulted in two passing shire members coming to the rescue.

After much digging and getting very dirty and muddy Mark Swinfield managed to get under the verandah and pull her out.

She spent the next hour sitting on her owner’s lap being told how bad she was but being spoiled just the same.

Tenterfield terriers, once referred to as a miniature fox terrier, were brought to Tenterfield, Australia, by Ben Hall.
