Pharmacy saves two-hour round trip for Darkan residents

09 Aug, 2007 01:56 PM
REGIONAL Partnerships program funding of $18,472 has helped the West Arthur Shire to incorporate a pharmacy within the West Arthur Health and Resource Centre.

Western Australia Senator Mathias Cormann officially opened the pharmacy on Friday.

"The Darkan community will now benefit from having a local pharmacy, saving a two hour trip to other regional centres for their medication," he said.

"The new pharmacy at the medical facility will boost the health centre's capacity to provide medical services for the region."

Senator Cormann congratulated the local community for working together to access Regional Partnerships program funding.

"I would particularly like to thank the Wheatbelt Area Consultative Committee for helping to bring this project to fruition," he said.

"I would like to acknowledge the financial support provided by the Shire of West Arthur."

A total of $261.7 million is available under the program from 2007–08 to 2010–11.

Since its inception in July 2003 the program has, on average, attracted a further $3 from other sources for every $1 invested by the Federal Government.

Communities should contact their local Area Consultative Committee if they wish to seek funding.
