WITH Christmas a fading memory, the time has come yet again for the children to return to school.
While this may be met with some relief by parents, for many this is a new and exciting adventure.
This year, Wagin District High School welcomes five new teachers to its staff, as well as the new kindergarten and pre-primary students.
In a new move, the kindergarten has relocated from the old premises across the road onto the main school site.
Although there is still work to be done, with the installation of the new play equipment and laying down of lawn, the new buildings are all set for the arrival of the schools youngest pupils.
Principal Darryn Martin said that it was a great first day for the kindergarten class as there weren't many tears from students.
When asked about their highlights from the first few days, Michael Nalder said he enjoyed singing songs, while Giana Toseska and Angus Whiteford said their favourite part of kindergarten was painting.
At the same time, there is a whole new group of students who have made the move to year 1.
“I had a good first day; I wasn't scared,” Zac Tulley said of his first day in year 1.
Olivia Clifton said she had a really fun first day.
“I made lots of new friends and I like my teacher,” she said.
As well as the movement of children, there are five new faces in the teaching line-up for 2012.
Maree Clark, who is originally from Narrogin, has made the move down from Perth to teach the pre-primary students.
Ms Clark has taught in a number of country towns and said she looked forward to becoming part of the Wagin community.
Roz Grimes will be teaching year 3/4.
She has also come from Perth were she has been doing relief and fixed term teaching.
Having completed a double degree in psychology and communications, Ms Grimes went into teaching as she wanted a career that was more hands-on, creative and fun.
Allan Peska is a graduate teacher, though he spent time in 2011 teaching in Newman.
Having worked all over the world, as a trainer for mining companies, he decided to pursue teaching, as he wanted to make a difference.
Mr Peska will be teaching year 5/6.
Also teaching year 5/6 will be Fraser Smithson.
Another graduate, Mr Smithson has always worked around kids, as both a maths tutor and soccer coach.
Claire Nicol from Manjimup will be the new year 7 teacher.
She has been teaching for seven years on-and-off and has spent most of her life in the country.
With both students and staff back in full swing, 2012 is set to be a busy year at Wagin District High School.
“We've got five new teachers and a whole school full of enthusiastic students and staff; it should be a great year,” Mr Martin said.
