THE mothers at baby playgroup have been kept very busy recently, with two different presentations on matters concerning their young babies.
On Thursday, November 17, Southern Wheatbelt Primary Health Service occupational therapist Amy Fisher presented a talk on child development.
The talk covered the major developmental milestones from birth to 18 months, in physical and skill development as well as communication.
“It is important to realise that every bub develops at their own pace,” Miss Fisher said.
“My aim is simply to equip mums with the tools to ensure that each baby gets the best start in life.”
On Thursday, December 1, school dental therapist Karen Fazey delivered a talk on dental health.
The talk focused on children aged zero to three, with the intention to prevent bad habits from developing.
The talk covered everything mouth related, from thumb sucking and dummies, to diet and teeth brushing.
“At this age, the aim is to prevent tooth problems, as dental repair on young children can be very traumatic,” Mrs Fazey said.
“Diet is the main concern, as packaged foods can be very high in sugar.
“Parents should aim for as much fresh food as possible at home.”
While based at Narrogin Primary School, the dental van visits Wagin for about six weeks in the middle of the year.
“While the van generally treats people between the ages of five and 16, I encourage people to drop by or give us a call if they have questions or are seeking further information,” Mrs Fazey said.
