Farewell after 30 years in Wagin

25 Aug, 2010 02:38 PM
DAVID and Londa Iles have called Wagin home for about 30 years and in this time they have managed to achieve every single goal they set out for themselves and their families.

They arrived in Wagin via train from New Zealand with their eight-month-old son Kepa Iles and decided to make this small town called Wagin home.

They then went on to purchase their first home in Vernal Street and had another baby named Koshie Iles.

Being shearers, Mrs and Mrs Iles decided to take the plunge and become a contractor of their own team and develop it from there.

Some 30 years later the couple has revolutionised Wagin and its shearing industry with their ideas, enthusiasm and determination to make it work for themselves and their family life.

To this day they have been recognised throughout WA and New Zealand for their sustainable shearing contracting and their generosity to everyone.

They not only ran a hectic shearing run, but they also got involved with the town itself, through the school that their children went to, to the numerous sporting clubs that they partook in, like the Wagin Gun Club, the Wagin Netball Club and many more.

They also had their hearts set on keeping the shearing passion alive with local shows, so they took on the Wagin Woolorama shedhand competition, Heiniger 100, Speed Shears and the general shearing competition for Saturdays.

They also became heavily involved with the judging and teaching of show protocols as well as the running of the events.

Time in Wagin has treated Mr and Mrs Iles well and they have managed to live a full and happy life in Wagin as shearing contractors, locals and as long term friends.

But they have made the decision to start another chapter in their lives by selling their shearing run to their son Christopher and Evelyn Iles where they will carry the legacy of their business on for many years to come.

Mr and Mrs Iles will now journey up to Karratha where they both plan to work on or alongside the mining industry and live the great Australian/New Zealand dream and travel around.

Wagin, friends and family will dearly miss their ever ready personalities around the town and will find it hard to replace such hard-working, caring and considerate people.

Everyone wishes them all the and may their next chapter in their lives be as exciting, colourful and eventful as the last one.

Mrs and Mrs Iles thanked everyone over the years for their friendships, business, and kindness.

Thank you to every one who came to the send off party, gave speeches and helped contribute to their send off, it was a wonderful night that they shall take with them when they make their journey to Karratha.
