WAGIN Agricultural Society recently announced Dominique Hodge as this year’s Young Rural Ambassador (YRA).
Miss Hodge is excited about her new position as YRA and is looking forward to representing the Wagin Agricultural Society.
“As a Wagin girl I am extremely proud of the Woolorama and will use this opportunity to promote the event and town to as many people as possible,” Miss Hodge said.
Miss Hodge is hoping to use her position as YRA to create awareness of depression among farmers of all ages and to promote the benefits of living in the country.
She said she valued being actively involved in the local community and practises what she preaches through the active role she plays in playing and fundraising for the Wagin Hockey Club.
Miss Hodge also has a rich history with Wagin Woolorama and has been involved in the show since a young age.
She was employed by the Wagin Argus to give out the official programs at the gate when she was at school.
She was also involved in the Youth Advisory Council who volunteered to run the first couple of Beaut Ute Musters before she assisted in the Woolorama office with compiling and processing results.
She has admired the Young Rural Ambassador role from a young age.
“I can remember seeing the then Miss Wooloramas back in the day and thinking they were royalty,” she said.
“This proves to me that the YRA role is very important.
“I am extremely honoured and proud to represent the Wagin Agricultural Society during Woolorama’s 40th birthday and 109th show and to help Wagin Woolorama showcase and celebrate the best of rural WA.”
During her role as YRA Miss Hodge will work closely with the Wagin Agricultural Society to learn more about what is involved in organising Woolorama.
She will fulfil some official duties during Woolorama including participating in the official opening, attending official luncheons and functions and presenting some trophies.
