WAGIN man Aaron Chilcott won the first place trophy in the V8 class at this year’s Kondinin Hoonavation.
Hoonavation has always been a favourite venue for Mr Chilcott to take his purpose-built burnout car to.
“I like attending Kondinin Hoonavation – the crowd is good and the people of Kondinin are awesome,” Mr Chilcott said.
“This is one of my favourite events of the year.”
Hoonavation organisers took last year off to prepare the venue for this year’s event, which was held on Saturday, March 14.
The crowds for the event were a little down due in part to other events being held in the region, but those in attendance enjoyed the day at Kondinin.
Kondinin Hoonavation president Alan Nelson said he was rapt with the event.
“There were 18 vehicles and 20 drivers entered,” Mr Nelson said.
“Not all of the drivers finished the day (due to) a few breakdowns, but that’s what sorts out the winners and grinners.
“The burnouts were full-on all day and from the start it was between two of the young blokes.
“One was our winner Aaron Chilcott and the other was a man from Busselton, but he had a breakdown in the second run and couldn't finish.
“This left the competition open for other entrants like Ryan Nelson who had a bad run in the first heat when he couldn't get his vehicle to grip enough in the front wheels.
“His next two were better seeing him come second place to Aaron, who had three perfect runs.”
Mr Nelson said drivers entered from as far away as Busselton, Denmark and Perth.
He said organisers were basically starting again after not holding the event last year as the renovations at the recreation centre meant the required amenities would not be available.
“The recreation centre facilities are now good and we were able to record the event to make a souvenir DVD, which will be available in coming weeks,” Mr Nelson said.
