AS THE nation experienced election fever on the weekend, the Great Southern region experienced its own excitement after selling a division one prize worth more than $545,000 in the weekend's Saturday Lotto draw.
The winning ticket was sold at Wagin Newsagency.
It's the second division one winning ticket sold in the Great Southern region this year, following a $1 million division one prize sold in Albany last month in the $20 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw.
“This is awesome news and there is a lot of hype in our community,” Wagin Newsagency owner Jackie Andrews said.
“It's going to be buzzing with excitement all day.
“You never know what terminal is going to produce the winning ticket, but this weekend it was my turn.
“I am happy to say that the winner is a local and the lucky numbers were birthdays.”
Saturday night's win marks the 49th division one win in WA this year, 12 of these wins were in country WA.
These winners have collectively shared in prizes worth almost $80 million.
Lotto winners are not the only ones who benefit from Lotterywest games – 33 cents in every dollar spent is returned to WA health, sports, the arts and a large number of charitable and community organisations.
Last year, the Wagin Youth Centre benefited from a $11,525 Lotterywest grant for equipment and renovations for the centre.
